Every evening, my shopping street does a light show. The sky goes soft, and then — pop, pop, pop — the red lanterns come on, one by one.

Tonight’s cast: the bathhouse sign, the noodle shop’s warm doorway, a neon that buzzes on with a proud little flourish. Same street, brand-new show, seven performances a week.

“Dusk is the street’s opening ceremony — and everyone gets a part!”

Curtain time is dusk. Admission is a short stroll. See you out there!
